Thom(p)son Genealogy / Robert Thompson search
« Last post by jthomp830 on March 18, 2022, 01:08:33 PM »
Greeting all,
I am stuck on my family search.
We can trace it back to Robert Thompson (1812-1855). He was born in Scotland, moved to Ireland and then Canada. He may have changed his name from MacThomais or that may be a rumor.
Somewhere along the way he married Catherine Harkins. She seems to have been born in Ireland in 1815. They had a son (Robert 1852-1909) and a daughter (Allie). The family ended up in New York State, but that may have been Robert JR.
Does anyone have information on Robert SR and his history in Scotland?

Hi back!

Glad you got on here with less stress than the members only area of the website! Technology is only great when it works, eh?

Please don't be disappointed in not receiving "hellos" to your post. The forum has pretty much been retired for active things - Facebook has captured the imagination the last few years. This one was hot and heavy in the years between establishing a new society and revealing the MacTavish B.S.  We were vindicated when matriculated - that Thom(p)son is not and never was a sept of nor could be considered to be/have been MacTavish. The similarity stops with the name - Son of Thomas or Tom.

You'll get some updates in your package - sent it out yesterday :)

Welcome home!
Mary

Hi Jo -

You got my welcome email I believe ....but I'll tell you again.....welcome back! I remembered your last name when I saw the membership come in. Sherry had to dig around to find it, but there you were ;)  So glad you remembered us.

Don't be disappointed if you don't get many replies = the forum has gone dead since you were on during your earlier years. Once we got our matriculation and some of the hub-bub (not all of it, ever!) died down with the "other" clan, most of our new comes from the newsletters which Sherry does an excellent job on. Speaking of newsletters....she always needs items of interest - especially when we aren't doing games. So if you have any good Scottish tales, recipes, songs, etc., share 'em, please!

Well, you know where to find me!

Mary
